Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Stratford (Labour), on Thursday, 7 December 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 38 members in total.
OPERATION CHARM
That this House congratulates the Metropolitan Police on the success of their Operation Charm to uncover trade in products of endangered animal species; believes additional resources must be made available urgently to the Metropolitan Police Wildlife Liaison group to enable them to crack down on this loathsome trade now valued at some ??3.25 billion a year; condemns operation of Chinese herbal shops for allowing the products of endangered species to be sold in defiance of international law and in pursuit of voodoo medical claims; and calls for the law to be strengthened so that those who continue to sell such products face mandatory and lengthy gaol sentences and confiscation of their property.
