Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Gordon Prentice (Labour), on Thursday, 27 February 1997, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 31 members in total.
CONDUCT OF THE HONOURABLE MEMBER FOR TATTON AND BOOKSHOPS
That this House regrets that the honourable Member for Tatton, a former Vice Chairman of the Small Business Bureau, who lists bibliomania as a special interest, has instructed his solicitor to threaten legal action against Books etc. in Victoria Street and other bookshops in Westminster, in his Tatton constituency and, indeed, nationwide if they stock Sleaze - the Corruption of Parliament; believes there is enormous demand for this book and considers that in the interests of freedom of information, the honourable Member should refrain from threats of legal action against the book trade and sue, if he is so minded, the publishers and the Guardian newspaper; and further believes readers should be given the chance to make up their own minds about the honourable Member's conduct and applauds the decision of Politicos Bookshop in Victoria to stock the book.
