Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lawrence Cunliffe (Labour), on Monday, 10 March 1997, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 46 members in total.
CANADIAN SEAL CULL
That this House condemns and deplores the Canadian Government for allowing and subsidising, as described by the Daily Mirror, the greatest massacre of marine mammals anywhere in the world, 283,000 seals; supports the International Fund for Animal Welfare in mounting a massive worldwide petition to the Canadian Government calling for an end to the hunt; deprecates the smart fashion houses which sell seal coats; and finds detestable the rich women who buy them.
