FIRE SAFETY AND GARMENTS

That this House notes with sadness and concern the tragic death of 15 year-old Melanie Ellison after suffering horrendous burns when a padded shirt she was wearing caught fire through a spark from a cooker; calls on the Government to introduce legislation that padded shirts of this kind should be filled with non-inflammable materials or at least contain a warning label saying that the filling is inflammable; further urges that the legislation should apply to all clothing and goods where inflammable materials are used; and further notes the Coroner's comment that warning labels are necessary inthe interest of personal safety.
