Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Heath (Liberal Democrat), on Monday, 13 July 1998, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 17 members in total.
SOMERSET AND CORNWALL LIGHT INFANTRY
That this House recognises and applauds the role of the 6th Battalion The (Somerset and Cornwall) Light Infantry (Volunteers); recalls the proud history of its predessor regiments the Somerset Light Infantry and the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry; notes that the Territorial Army represents the only Army presence in Cornwall and Somerset and that its loss would be a major impediment to future recruitment to the regular Army in the region; and accordingly calls on the Secretary of State for Defence to maintain the integrity of the Battalion and to enhance its role as a consequence of the Strategic Defence Review.
