EU SUPPORT FOR A SOVEREIGN PALESTINIAN STATE

That this House welcomes the declaration by the heads of states and government of the EU on the Middle East Peace Process made at the Berlin Summit which calls for a negotiated peace settlement based on the principles of international law SCRs 242 and 338 and the Madrid and Oslo agreements and reaffirms the absolute Palestinian right to self-determination including the option of a state; welcomes the EU's commitment to the security of both the Palestinian and Israeli people and joins the EU in the belief that the best guarantee of Israel's security will be its acceptance of a democratic, viable and peaceful sovereign Palestinian state; applauds the stated intention of the EU heads of state to declare their readiness to recognise a Palestinian state in due course; and urges all parties to the conflict to negotiate in good faith to achieve a settlement in the Middle East based on the principles referred to above.
