KOSOVO AND THE PROTECTION OF REFUGEES

That this House deplores the gross human rights violations occurring in Kosovo; welcomes Her Majesty's Government's recognition of Kosovars as refugees and expects Her Majesty's Government to extend this status to those awaiting a decision and to new arrivals; recognises the need to share responsibility for the protection of refugees with states neighbouring former Yugoslavia and urges Her Majesty's Government to speed up voluntary evacuations; further expects Her Majesty's Government to waive visa requirements, suspend carrier sanctions and safe third country removals for Kosovars who arrive in the United Kingdom individually and release those Kosovar refugees held in immigration detention; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to respect international law and humanitarian principles in its refugee policy and asylum legislation.
