CYPRUS (No. 4)
That this House welcomes the keynote speech of the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Dr Ioannis Kasoulides, to the annual dinner of the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood in London on 21st November, in which he reaffirmed the close and important ties between Cyprus and the United Kingdom, paid tribute to the role played by the United Kingdom and in particular the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, the Right honourable Member for Livingston in supporting the accession of Cyprus to the European Union, reported on the latest developments in the proximity talks under the aegis of the United Nations, including the UN Secretary General's observation that from New York in September 'a qualitative step forward has taken place' in the talks, and called on Mr Denktash to 'look to a better future for the whole of Cyprus within the haven of prosperity, security and stability that the European Union is'.
