Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Andrew George (Liberal Democrat), on Wednesday, 1 November 2000, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 19 members in total.
CORNISH PASTY AND PROTECTED GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION STATUS
That this House believes that the humble Cornish pasty is the product of a unique tradition of working men and women in Cornwall, that it is vital to the local economy, generating an estimated turnover of ??150 million, provides thousands of jobs, is an essential part of the Cornish character in the food market and that any pasty described as 'Cornish' in the European Market should actually me made in Cornwall; and therefore support its case for Protected Geographical Indication status.
