Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Ashok Kumar (Labour), on Monday, 19 March 2001, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 72 members in total.
SIR BRIAN MOFFAT
That this House notes that Sir Brian Moffat, the Chief Executive of Corus Plc, was awarded his knighthood by Her Majesty for services to the steel industry; further notes the recent announcements of massive plant closures and job losses by Corus in Wales, the North East of England and South Yorkshire; notes also the loss of markets and customer s for the UK steel industry that such closures will bring; a nd believes that he no longer deserves this honour on the grounds that his occupancy of the role of Chief Executive is no longer of any service to the steel industry and the communities that have built up and sustained that industry.
