Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Richard Taylor (Independent (affiliation)), on Tuesday, 23 July 2002, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 60 members in total.
NATIONAL STRATEGY ON SPORT AND RECREATION
That this House recognises the preventative role of sport and recreation in improving the nation's health; notes that being inactive doubles a person's risk of contracting heart disease; commends the good practice of former health authorities and primary care trusts in promoting physical activity, which is highlighted within the Central Council of Physical Recreation's, Saving Lives, Saving Money study; calls on the Government to develop a joined-up strategy at national and local level to promote the health benefits of sport, recreation and dance; and believes that such a properly funded strategy would save lives and reduce the financial pressures on the NHS.
