Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Brian Sedgemore (Labour), on Wednesday, 12 June 2002, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 3 members in total.
MR BERNARD CROFTON
That this House is pleased that justice has at last been done and that on 31st May the Court of Appeal unanimously upheld the decision of the Employment Tribunal in 1998 that Mr Bernard Crofton, then Director of Housing at Hackney Council, had discriminated racially against Mr Sam Yeboah, the black Director of Personnel, on a number of issues, including some which related to fraud; notes that in making this decision the Court of Appeal overturned the wrong decision of the Employment Appeal Tribunal; unreservedly condemns Mr Crofton who was found guilty by the Employment Tribunal of persistently lying, fabricating evidence and re-inventing history; condemns those including Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, and a number of Liberal Democrat and Tory councillors who supported Mr Crofton's despicable conduct; is alarmed that the case, besides doing untold harm to Mr Yeboah, has cost the residents of Hackney over ??1 million; calls on Mr Crofton and his allies to re-imburse the residents of Hackney for this expenditure; and condemns successive district auditors for the inaction in these and related matters over a period of six years.
