That this House is pleased that justice has at last been done and that on 31st May the Court of Appeal unanimously upheld the decision of the Employment Tribunal in 1998 that Mr Bernard Crofton, then Director of Housing at Hackney Council, had discriminated racially against Mr Sam Yeboah, the black Director of Personnel, on a number of issues, including some which related to fraud; notes that in making this decision the Court of Appeal overturned the wrong decision of the Employment Appeal Tribunal; unreservedly condemns Mr Crofton who was found guilty by the Employment Tribunal of persistently lying, fabricating evidence and re-inventing history; condemns those including Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, and a number of Liberal Democrat and Tory councillors who supported Mr Crofton's despicable conduct; is alarmed that the case, besides doing untold harm to Mr Yeboah, has cost the residents of Hackney over ??1 million; calls on Mr Crofton and his allies to re-imburse the residents of Hackney for this expenditure; and condemns successive district auditors for the inaction in these and related matters over a period of six years.

That this House notes that Ian Macdonald QC has produced a thorough and reasoned 468 page independent report into the Bernard Crofton affair at the instigation of Hackney Council; notes that Ian Macdonald QC totally exonerates Mr Sam Yeboah, the former Director of Personnel, of the charges made against him by Mr Crofton; notes that Ian Macdonald QC concludes that Mr Crofton is not a racist but a liar; notes that Ian Macdonald QC is scathing about the fabrication of evidence by Mr Crofton in his defence, particularly as regards lies which Mr Crofton told the panel which heard his appeal and which was falsely involved, dragging in the good name of an eminent QC, Mr Andrew Arden; notes that Ian Macdonld QC believes that in his attempt to keep his job Mr Crofton committed a serious criminal offence; and agrees with Ian Macdonald QC that Mr Crofton should be sacked and that the papers should be sent to the police.
