ASTRIUM LTD AND MILITARY SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS

That this House recognises the important role played by Astrium Ltd which has a major presence in Poynton, Cheshire in the United Kingdom's defence as the largest military communications satellite provider having successfully supplied all of the UK Ministry of Defence's current generation Skynet 4 military communications satellites; further recognises the company's positive contributions to levels of employment in the science, engineering and manufacturing sector and successful economy of the Macclesfield constituency, the North West of England and other parts of the UK; notes Astrium Ltd's role of leading company in Paradigm Secure Communications consortium; and supports the consortium in its current bid to be awarded the Ministry of Defence's Skynet 5 Military Satellite Communications contract to provide the next generation of secure global military satellite communications systems.
