HEALTHY EATING AND HEALTHY BABIES

That this House notes with concern the results of a recent study by the charity Baby Lifeline, which found that the poor diet of mothers-to-be contributed to the death of around 8,500 babies a year; welcomes their involvement in National Mother and Baby Week 2003, which sees the launch of a nationwide campaign to promote good nutrition in pregnancy; further welcomes the launch of the Department of Health's 5 a Day campaign as part of a wider strategy to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease and generally improve the health of the nation; and encourages food producers and retailers to use the logo and provide information about healthy eating to their customers whenever possible.
