Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Amess (Conservative), on Thursday, 23 January 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 109 members in total.
EXTENSION OF EU-ZIMBABWE SANCTIONS
That this House calls on the Government to do all it can to put pressure on the French Government to withdraw its invitation to Robert Mugabe to attend the Franco-African Summit in February; notes that France did not recognise the March 2002 presidential election in Zimbabwe as free and fair and that a meeting with Robert Mugabe would represent a backsliding from their previous position and grant him the recognition of legitimacy he longs for; and further notes that if the beleaguered Zimbabwean people are genuinely to be helped then the EU sanctions must be extended for another year.
