Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Jackson of Peterborough (Conservative), on Monday, 24 April 2006, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 12 members in total.

MERGER OF CAMBRIDGESHIRE CONSTABULARY WITH NORFOLK AND SUFFOLK CONSTABULARIES

That this House supports the decision of Cambridgeshire Police Authority to refuse to agree to the merger of Cambridgeshire Constabulary with Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies; notes that the Home Secretary has comprehensively failed to make a coherent case for merger and to engage with and listen to key partners across Cambridgeshire, especially local authorities; and further notes that the decision to compel local police forces to merge is driven from the Home Office and is based on spurious evidence and will do nothing to address under-funding of Cambridgeshire Constabulary nor the operational priorities of reducing anti-social behaviour, violent crime and drug-related crime in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
