To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, on what grounds she decided the level of funding for Suffolk Constabulary; and if she will review that funding.
Suffolk Police’s funding will be up to £171.5m in 2024-25. This is in addition to £1.5m provided for the 2024-25 pay award which has been allocated outside of the police funding settlement.
The Home Secretary has already announced over half a billion of additional central government funding for policing in 2025-26 and has confirmed that police forces will be fully compensated for the changes to employer National Insurance contributions. Further funding and detail will be set out in the police funding settlement in the normal way.
Force level funding allocations for the financial year 2025-26, including funding for employers National Insurance Contributions, will also be confirmed at the forthcoming police funding settlement. Funding for future years beyond 2025-26 will be set out in phase 2 of the Spending Review.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what estimate she has made of the cost of the increase to employers National Insurance contributions for Suffolk Constabulary in the 2025-26 financial year; and how much additional funding her Department plans to provide to Suffolk Constabulary for this purpose...

Last November, a horrific mass brawl broke out on Norwich Road in Ipswich. Last month, only one of the 11 people required to attend Suffolk magistrates court in connection with the incident bothered showing up. So far, one of the 10 has been arrested, and Suffolk constabulary is currently working...

I share my hon. Friend’s concern. He raised the issue of law and order, which should be taken with the utmost seriousness by the Government and by society as a whole. That is part of the reason why the Government are seeking to recruit 20,000 more police officers. With regard...

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what steps she will take to ensure equitable funding for Suffolk constabulary by changing the police funding formula.
The Government is committed to supporting the police, including through the 20,000 additional officers announced in the Chancellor’s September 2019 statement.
The funding formula will be considered in the context of the next Spending Review.
With Suffolk police being one of the lowest-funded forces with the highest number of case loads per officer in the country, will the Policing Minister set out a timetable for reviewing the police funding formula?

My hon. Friend is an assiduous campaigner on behalf of Suffolk police, and he knows that next year, as a result of the funding settlement, it will get an additional £3.6 million. I have made it clear that we will be looking at the fair funding formula in the context of the next comprehensive spending review, because we think that is the most appropriate framework to do so. Although we do not have an exact timetable, I expect that work to start soon.

That this House supports the decision of Cambridgeshire Police Authority to refuse to agree to the merger of Cambridgeshire Constabulary with Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies; notes that the Home Secretary has comprehensively failed to make a coherent case for merger and to engage with and listen to key partners across Cambridgeshire, especially local authorities; and further notes that the decision to compel local police forces to merge is driven from the Home Office and is based on spurious evidence and will do nothing to address under-funding of Cambridgeshire Constabulary nor the operational priorities of reducing anti-social behaviour, violent crime and drug-related crime in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
