Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor John Barrett (Liberal Democrat), on Thursday, 19 October 2006, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 52 members in total.
EU VOTE ON DOG AND CAT FUR
That this House notes the recent vote in the European Parliament which overwhelmingly adopted the Action Plan on the Protection and Welfare of Animals 2006-2010; recognises that the action plan fully endorses an EU-wide ban on the sale of dog and cat fur; believes this vote sends out a clear message that the animal cruelty associated with the trade in dog and cat fur is unacceptable; and calls on the Government to heed the calls on the public and of organisations such as the Scottish SPCA and implement a UK ban on the import, export and domestic trade in dog and cat fur or of products made with dog and cat fur as soon as possible.
