Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Hoyle (Labour), on Tuesday, 29 January 1991, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 54 members in total.
BBC PANORAMA IRAQI "SUPERGUN" PROGRAMME
That this House deeply regrets the decision of the BBC to twice cancel the showing of a Panorama documentary about the role played by the Department of Trade and Industry in the Iraqi `supergun' affair; believes that the programme contains important new information and should be broadcast in the public interest; demands an assurance from the Director General of the BBC that the programme has not been cancelled as a result of political interference and that national security will not be used as an excuse for censoring information embarrassing to the Government; and calls upon the BBC to broadcast the programme as soon as possible.
