Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Beith (Liberal Democrat), on Tuesday, 8 January 2008, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 38 members in total.
BEHAVIOUR OF THE BRITISH LIBRARY OVER THE RETURN OF THE LINDISFARNE GOSPELS
That this House applauds the Journal Newspaper for exposing the British Library's active policy of resistance to the broad-based campaign to return the Lindisfarne Gospels to the North East; notes that the British Library has deployed spurious arguments for not allowing the Gospels to be returned to the North East and has withheld information; calls on the British Library to consider the widely supported campaign to return the Gospels with greater seriousness than it has thus far; condemns the comments made by James O'Leary about the hon. Member for City of Durham; and calls for an immediate retraction and apology.
