Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Michael Latham (Conservative), on Tuesday, 17 July 1990, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 6 members in total.
Arab and Israeli Comments on Soviet Jewish Migration
That this House notes and contrasts the comments of the Islamic Jihad movement, as reported on Al-Quds Palestinian Arab radio on 2nd July, calling on all heroic workers to mount operations to stab Soviet Jewish Immigrants with knives in order to confuse the enemy and sow fear in his ranks, with those of Mr Simcha Dinitz, Chairman of the Jewish Agency, as quoted on Voice of Israel on 25th June, that 65,000 immigrants had arrived in Israel since the previous April, 50,000 of them from the Soviet Union, but only 215 had settled in the administered, occupied territories; further notes the letter from Prime Minister Shamir to President Gorbachev and the speech by Housing Minister Sharon, both of which made it clear that Israel has no policy of settling immigrants outside the borders of pre-1967 Israel; and hopes that western Governments will now recognise that Arab criticism is fundamentally against any Jewish immigration to Israel proper, just as it is hostile to any such immigration of Jewish refugees from Hitler's barbarism to mandatory Palestine from 1920 to 1948.
