Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Michael Welsh (Labour), on Wednesday, 11 December 1991, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 27 members in total.
SAVING OF THORNE MOORS
That this House condemns the damage to Thorne Moors as a result of the operation by Fisons plc; notes this area which is very close to Doncaster is the largest remaining lowland raised mire in Britain, covering 1918 hectares, and is home to more than 25 of Britain's most severely endangered species and over 500 rare insect species; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to stop this wilful destruction of this rich ecological site, for once Thorne Moors is destroyed it cannot be recreated.
