Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Chris Mullin (Labour), on Wednesday, 15 January 1992, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 65 members in total.
SARAWAK RAINFOREST
That this House congratulates World in Action for its programme on 13th January exposing the ruthless destruction of Sarawak rainforest by Japanese corporations in league with currupt Malaysian politicians and without regard for the interests of the indigenous peoples; believes that the plunder by Japan of its neighbour's natural resources bodes ill both for the stability of the region and for the long-term future of the planet; and urges Her Majesty's Government to register the strongest protest to the governments of Malaysia and Japan and to urge Japan to devote some of its huge surpluses to sustainable development.
