Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Alan Meale (Labour), on Monday, 1 February 2016, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 11 members in total.

CHINA AND MARKET ECONOMY STATUS

That this House notes Government moves towards granting China market economy status; recalls the recent situation of the near total collapse of the British steel industry caused primarily by a combination of high energy costs and the dumping of huge quantities of cheap Chinese steel products into the UK, European and world markets; and believes that the Government should be wary of allowing countries such as China to enter the UK marketplace unless guarantees are given not to indulge in such unacceptable and destructive practices.
