Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor David Bellotti (Liberal Democrat), on Tuesday, 3 December 1991, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 13 members in total.

NEWHAVEN-DIEPPE FERRY LINK

That this House affirms the vital importance of the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry link to the economy of Newhaven and the whole of East Sussex; notes that the continuation of the link appears now to be in considerable doubt due to a lack of public confidence, substantial operational losses and the impending opening of the Channel Tunnel; further notes that the closure of the link would lead to the loss of hundreds of jobs; calls upon the Secretary of State for Transport, even at this late stage, to use all possible channels to secure the continuation of this vital link; and commends the efforts being made by Lewes District Council to save this ferry.

leave out from 'that' to end and add 'this situation has been brought about by the actions of an unreconstructed French trade union, which represents the predominantly French crews, supported by the Communist-run Dieppe Town Council in a country that would greatly benefit from modern British trade union laws being imposed on it, as opposed to the Social Action Programme being imposed on the United Kingdom.'.
