CYPRUS (No.5)

That this House welcomes the meeting between the Minister of State for Overseas Development and President Denktas of Northern Cyprus, and the announcement of a further meeting between President Denktas and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Conference; welcomes the Secretary of State's warning that the Greek Cypriots should not use the conference to extract further one-sided resolutions; expresses the view that direct dialogue is the only way to secure a just and lasting settlement, and urges the Prime Minister to invite President Denktas to a meeting in London as soon as possible; further welcomes the meeting arranged between Her Majesty the Queen and Turkish and Greek Cypriots at the Dhekalia sovereign base, and urges that persons whom the two peoples of Cyprus have elected as their representatives be invited to that meeting.
