60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ISLE OF MAY'S STATUS AS A NATIONAL NATURE RESERVE AND 200th ANNIVERSARY OF ITS MAIN LIGHTHOUSE

That this House celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Isle of May's status as a national nature reserve, as well as the 200th anniversary of its main lighthouse which is Scotland's oldest still in operation; notes the lighthouse, designed by Robert Stevenson, is now solar powered having been Scotland's first to be powered by electricity; further notes the island, which also includes Scotland's oldest lighthouse dating from 1636, is rightly seen as a natural jewel that is important to a wide range of wildlife, including puffins, seals, terns and whales; congratulates the excellent work done by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) Reserve Manager David Steel and his team who live on and manage the Isle of May on behalf of SNH; thanks Mr Steel for helping to facilitate The May's first ever parliamentary advice surgery; and encourages visitors to Fife to journey to the island on the May Princess which leaves Anstruther Harbour almost every day from April to September.
