All of Trinity House’s capital expenditure programmes are funded through the General Lighthouse Fund and are set out in their corporate plans, which cover rolling five-year periods and are updated and approved annually. The most recent Trinity House corporate plan (2026-31) sets out capital expenditure of £44.8 million over the five-year period, which includes spending on programmes which support decarbonisation.

That this house warmly congratulates Ardnamurchan Lighthouse Trustees on successfully securing ownership, through Community Asset Transfer, of the lighthouse site, which sits at the most westerly point of the UK; recognises the endeavour and achievement of trustees over the past 21 years in preserving and promoting Ardnamurchan lighthouse, both as a historical monument and as a tourist attraction for visitors to this remote rural peninsula; applauds the dynamic and enterprising plans for developing the visitor centre and cafeteria at this iconic landmark, which attracts in excess of 18,000 visitors each year, and its important role in preserving the local history and culture; acknowledges that ownership of the site will allow the Trust to access to new funding opportunities to enable these forward-thinking plans to be developed; and wishes the project well for the future.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether his Department plans to take steps to gain jurisdiction over lighthouses on islands off the coast of Northern Ireland after the UK's exit from the EU; and if he will make a statement.
Arrangements for the provision of lighthouses and other aids to navigation sit outside of European Union regulations under the international convention on Safety of Lives at Sea (SOLAS) managed by the International Maritime Organization.
The provision of all aids to navigation safety for Northern Ireland is the responsibility of the Commissioners of Irish Lights. The Commissioners of Irish Lights have responsibility for aids to navigation for the whole of the island of Ireland and are accountable to the UK Department for Transport for their operations in UK waters. No change to this arrangement is envisaged as a result of the UK’s exit from the European Union.
That this House celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Isle of May's status as a national nature reserve, as well as the 200th anniversary of its main lighthouse which is Scotland's oldest still in operation; notes the lighthouse, designed by Robert Stevenson, is now solar powered having been Scotland's first to be powered by electricity; further notes the island, which also includes Scotland's oldest lighthouse dating from 1636, is rightly seen as a natural jewel that is important to a wide range of wildlife, including puffins, seals, terns and whales; congratulates the excellent work done by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) Reserve Manager David Steel and his team who live on and manage the Isle of May on behalf of SNH; thanks Mr Steel for helping to facilitate The May's first ever parliamentary advice surgery; and encourages visitors to Fife to journey to the island on the May Princess which leaves Anstruther Harbour almost every day from April to September.
