Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor John Denham (Labour), on Thursday, 1 April 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 36 members in total.
WORLD BANK FUNDING OF THE NARMADA DAM
That this House welcomes the ending of World Bank funding for the Sardar Sarovar dam and irrigation projects on the Narmada river; recognises that years of criticism by non-governmental organisations have previously been brushed aside by the World Bank; regrets the decision of the United Kingdom Government in October 1992 to continue support for World Bank funding of the Narmada dam; and believes that the United Kingdom Government's role in the World Bank should be subject to greater public debate and Parliamentary scrutiny.
