Sam Hickey Commonwealth Games Middleweight Boxing Champion

That this House congratulates Lochee’s Sam Hickey on his gold medal in the Middleweight Division at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games; further congratulates Sam on being named Best Male Boxer of the Games; notes that Sam’s win against Australia's Callum Peters in the final followed victories against St Lucia’s Kyghan Mortley, Nigeria’s Benson Adeyinka and England’s Lewis Richardson over the course of the Games; further notes that this followed his success in the European Championships earlier this year, where he was the first Scot to medal in over 18 years; recognises the important influence that Lochee Amateur Boxing Club has had in Sam’s success; further recognises the important role that boxing both historically had and continues to have in the local community; and wishes Sam all the best for the future.
