Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Cyril Townsend (Conservative), on Wednesday, 10 March 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 8 members in total.

THE OBSERVER

That this House deplores the disgraceful and disloyal conduct of Mr Donald Trelford, Editor of The Observer, in failing to help his freelance contributor, the Middle East specialist, Dr Alan George, to defend a libel action launched by Crescent Petroleum, a company which until the invasion of Kuwait had intimate links with Saddam Hussein's regime; and congratulates Dr George for his successful application to the High Court on 25th February that the action be struck out on the grounds that the words complained of were incapable of bearing the meanings alleged.
