Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Diane Abbott (Independent (affiliation)), on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 20 members in total.

The Iran conflict, the US naval blockade and price inflation

That this House notes prices have already begun to rise as a result of the Iran War; further notes that many international bodies such as the IMF and OECD expect prices rise much higher and that the Bank of England concurs; also notes that the war was begun by the US and Israeli bombing and that the US has since mounted blockade of Iranian ports ordered by US President Donald Trump; and therefore calls on the Government to end any support for the war, to use its influence to call for a speedy end to hostilities, and most urgently to urge the US to allow free passage of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to begin to exert downward pressure on prices.
