Funding for adventure playgrounds in Leicester

That this House recognises the vital role played by adventure playgrounds across Leicester in supporting children's development, mental health and wellbeing; notes that in some of the city's most deprived communities, these nine community hubs have served Leicester's children for over five decades, providing safe spaces for supervised play, after-school activities and holiday provision; further notes the well-evidenced links between access to play and improved outcomes in physical health, social integration, emotional resilience and educational attainment, as well as the disproportionate impact on children in areas of high deprivation when such provision is lost; is deeply concerned that funding cuts of over 50% have forced playgrounds to drastically reduce opening times, place summer holiday provision in jeopardy for the first time in 55 years, and put at risk services on which hundreds of children depend daily; also notes that these cuts fall hardest on children in Leicester's most disadvantaged communities, compounding existing inequalities in access to play, outdoor space and early mental health support; and calls on both central and local government to ensure long-term sustainable funding models are put in place to protect these services, and that children in deprived communities are never again put at risk of losing access to this essential provision.
