Contribution of women to the Bayeux Tapestry

That this House welcomes the opening of the Bayeux Tapestry to the public at the British Museum, one of the world's most famous and celebrated works of art; notes that it was created by English women, whose individual names and identities were never recorded; further notes that despite its fame, popular and historical attention has repeatedly returned to its male patrons rather than to the women whose skill and artistry produced it; celebrates those unknown women, whose work has endured for almost a thousand years and continues to delight and inspire all who see it; and calls on the Government to consider what more can be done to ensure that women's historic contributions to art, culture and history are properly recognised, researched and celebrated.
