PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE AND PARCELFORCE

That this House notes that, in his statement on 15th July 1992 announcing the Government's intention to privatise Parcelforce, the President of the Board of Trade failed to inform the House that Parcelforce will lose the exemption from VAT which it enjoys as part of the Post Office and its prices will have to rise by at least 17.5 per cent., at great cost to businesses and ordinary citizens, especially those 20 per cent. of customers who live in remote areas where there are no competitors; and calls on the Government to withdraw its proposals and for a fresh statement from the President of the Board of Trade explaining the full consequences of Parcelforce privatisation.
