Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Darling of Roulanish (Labour), on Wednesday, 25 May 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 54 members in total.
PROTECTION OF INVESTORS
That this House notes that the Treasury and Civil Service Committee conclusion in their Fourth Report (House of Commons Paper No. 236) that 'the evidence we have taken has cast serious doubt on the Personal Investment Authority's likely effectiveness as a body for investor protection'; believes that neither the public nor the industry should settle for a second best solution to the problems of self regulation; and calls on the Government to stop the PIA and to make an early statement on its proposals to put in place a regulatory system that enjoys the confidence of the public and the industry.
