Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Richard Burden (Labour), on Monday, 18 April 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 71 members in total.

WATER INDUSTRY PROFITS AND CHARGES

That this House condemns water companies for overcharging customers by ??280 million for infra-structure renewals which have not yet been carried out as revealed by the Independent on Sunday; believes that this is another example of the way privatisation of the water industry has been geared to ensure big profits at the expense of consumers and the environment; and further believes that it is unacceptable that OFWAT has proved ineffectual in upholding the interests of consumers, that the position of the Director-General of OFWAT is now untenable and that the present structure of OFWAT must be replaced by a regulator truly independent of the privatised water industry.
