Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Liz Lynne (Liberal Democrat), on Thursday, 21 April 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 41 members in total.

ARTS COUNCIL ARTS AND DISABILITY UNIT

That this House condemns the axing of the Arts Council's Arts and Disability Unit due in March 1995 following the Department of National Heritage's demand that the Council reduce their overheads by ??600,000; notes that the unit only costs ??50,000 to run and provides invaluable work in increasing disabled people's access to the arts and to jobs in the arts in line with the Arts Council's objective 'to increase the number and range of people experiencing the arts'; and believes that this decision undermines that objective and that the decision should be reversed and the precious expertise of the unit be retained.
