Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Terry Rooney (Labour), on Wednesday, 2 March 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 66 members in total.
CHILD SUPPORT ACT CHANGES AND FAMILY CREDIT CLAIMANTS
That this House notes the changes to the Child Support Act 1991 which became effective on 7th February 1994; notes that these will significantly reduce maintenance payments by absent parents; further notes that tens of thousands of family credit claimants have had benefit entitlement assessed on the basics of higher maintenance income; recognises that family credit is only re-assessed every 26 weeks and that large numbers of people are severely disadvantaged by these rule changes; and calls on the Secretary of State for Social Security to introduce interim measures to protect the innocent victims of these changes.
