Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor John Gunnell (Labour), on Tuesday, 11 January 1994, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 154 members in total.

ZOO DIRECTIVES

That this House welcomes the efforts of the EEC to establish minimum standards for wild animals in zoos within the Community and the support given by the European Parliament to the directive; and calls on the government to press the Commission to address zoo standards through Community legislation in that the survival of endangered species, a declared function of zoos, involves animals in cross-border travel, and failure to legislate may both undermine those survival chances and sentence thousands of animals to wasted lives of continued suffering with little hope of reprieve.
