FUR FARMING

That this House agrees with the Farm Animal Welfare Council that mink and Arctic fox are 'essentially wild animals' and that the systems employed in their farming 'do not satisfy some of the most basic criteria ... identified for protecting the welfare of farm animals'; notes that this opinion is shared by leading animal welfare and behaviour experts, veterinarians and zoologists and agrees with the Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, the honourable Member for Crawley, that fur farming is 'a disagreeable business'; further notes that as of July this year there were 14 licensed mink farms in Britain; and calls upon the Government to phase out the unjustifiably cruel practice of fur farming immediately.
