To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, how many higher education institutions offered (a) mathematics (b) physics, (c) biology and (d) chemistry-related degrees in each of the last 10 years. - Inc tables. (Holding answer 28 February 2005).

Charles Hendry: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills how many higher education institutions offered (a) mathematics (b) physics, (c) biology and (d) chemistry-related degrees in each of the last 10 years. [218882] Dr. Howells: [holding answer 28 February 2005]: The Department does not specifically collect information on the subjects offered by each HE institution. The available information is taken from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) student record and summarises the number of HE institutions with one or more enrolments at degree level in the given subject. Figures are given in the table. Because of this coverage, the figures for 2002/ 03 and 2003/04 are not comparable to earlier years.
