Mrs. Curtis-Thomas: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made in the introduction of language and knowledge tests for immigrants. [216800] Mr. Browne: Regulations on the level of English language required for naturalisation purposes were introduced on 28 July 2004. I hope to make a statement shortly on the introduction of the requirement that applicants should know something of life in the UK.
