MOT Computerisation Programme

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the progress of the MOT computerisation programme; and what assessment (a) has been conducted and (b) is planned of the (i) effectiveness and (ii) value for money of its implementation.
Answer

MOT computerisation went live in garages on 18 April 2005. To date 2,730 garages have used the new system and in excess of 340,000 tests have been recorded onto the database.A report on the effectiveness and value for money of the implementation of the service was conducted by the National Audit Office during 2004.
