Smart Meters
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make it his policy to encourage the installation of smart meters in all domestic premises; and what discussions he has held with Ofgem on this matter.
- Answer
-
Smart metering is potentially one of a number of measures that could be used to influence domestic energy consumption through improved information to the consumer. Potential benefits include reduced energy consumption, accurate billing and help to disadvantaged sections of society. My officials, working closely with Ofgem and DEFRA are currently undertaking a market framework and cost/benefit analysis that will feed into any future Government policy development in this area.
