Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he takes to monitor the balance of research findings in the field of myalgic encephalomyelitis in Northern Ireland.

Answer: Myalgic encephalomyelitis is a relatively poorly understood disorder which produces a broad range of symptoms and disabilities and has various suggested causes and treatments. As such research in the field of myalgic encephalomyelitis is extensive and varied in both approach and results.The Department, in considering research findings for specific conditions and their potential implications, is informed by the views of the relevant professional and clinical standard setting bodies.
