Written question asked by Baroness Miller of Chilthorne Domer (Liberal Democrat), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Bach (Labour) on Thursday, 1 December 2005.

European Union: Eco-labelling Scheme

Question
Whether they will base solid wood furniture procurement by government departments on the recommendations of the European Union eco-label scheme once the list is developed.
Answer

The Commission has not yet brought forward detailed proposals for an eco-label for wooden furniture, but work is expected to start next year. If criteria are eventually agreed, the Government will certainly consider drawing on them for use in their contract specifications.
