List 99

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills how many appeals against a ban on working with children have been made by people on (a) the Sex Offenders Register, but not on List 99 and (b) on List 99 in each of the last 10 years.
Answer

Someone who is on the Sex Offenders Register but not on List 99 is not banned from working with children to the extent that he is not subject to a complete or partial bar from doing work to which section 142 of the Education Act 2002 applies.The annual number of appeals, to the Care Standards Tribunal in respect of listing on List 99, lodged in each calendar year is as follows:

Prior to 2000 there was no right of appeal to an independent tribunal. The first hearing was heard in 2001.
