Written question asked by Lord Lester of Herne Hill (Liberal Democrat), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Bach (Labour) on Tuesday, 2 May 2006.

Parliamentary Ombudsman

Question
Further to the Written Answer by the Lord Bassam of Brighton on 29 March (WA 126), on how many occasions since 1997, and in respect of which specific recommendations, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and its predecessors have refused or omitted to give effect to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
Answer

Neither the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) nor its predecessors have collated figures on the number of occasions where they   have refused or omitted to give effect to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Ombudsman. While a definitive reply could be provided only at disproportionate cost, we believe that there have been no cases since Defra was established in 2001.
